The Handstand Kids Mexican Cookbook is the second book in the increasingly popular Handstand Kids cookbook series (the first, Handstand Kids Italian Cookbook, featured the recipes and language of Italy).
The ingredients and utensils are translated into Spanish in the introduction so kid chefs can learn the language of Mexico as they learn to cook the cuisine. Chef Sanchez, who is an authority on Mexican cooking and has been a co-host on The Food Network's Melting Pot, wrote the introduction. In this book, the Handstand Kids use their cooking skills to create a food fundraiser for Common Threads, a non-profit organization founded by Art Smith (a regular on The Oprah Show and Oprah's personal chef).
The Handstand Kids have diverse interests and backgrounds: Felix is a vegetarian, Izzy loves to cook for his diabetic sister, Ari uses her cooking skills to volunteer at kid's charities, Gabby speaks Spanish and English, and Marvin is an aspiring executive chef. Join the Handstand Kids as they travel the world, one recipe at a time!
Authors: Yvette Garfield and Cricket Azima; Kim DeRose, illustrator. 52 pp. Ages: 4-8. Hardcover. Publisher: Handstand Kids, LLC, 2008. Books shipped from separate warehouse.
