We found a mild, creamy soap for ethnic babies -- our own all-natural “Baby Soap Cakes”! We chose this manufacturer because they had the creamiest, mildest, most emolient formula we could find (very important for ethnic babies who are prone to dry, ashy skin). We were also moved by their commitment to cruelty-free, all vegan products that are safe-enough to eat (just not very tasty).
Our “Plain" cakes contain the following emollients: buttery palm oil, gentle coconut oil and vegetable-based glycerin. “Almond" cakes also contain creamed almond oil and all-natural vegetable coloring. That’s it!
How to Choose Soap for Ethnic Babies
Be very careful when selecting vegan and organic soaps. Some natural ingredients, like oatmeal, are too drying for many ethnic babies – who may already have dry and ashy skin.
It is also important that the natural glycerin (produced during the soap making process) stays in the soap -- as the glycerin is the emollient that helps the skin retain moisture. Many soap makers (including those who make higher-end organic soaps) siphon off the glycerin during production as this produces a better quality soap for babies without melanin.
